Educational Classes and Training

Community Leadership Academy (CLA)
Mobile Academies are also available if your organization can guarantee
at least 10 participants. Please email class suggestions to
ndc@sanjoseca.gov or call our office at 408-723-4114, between 8:00 a.m.
and 5:00 p.m., weekdays.

Friends of Guadalupe Park and Gardens
This organization located at 438 Coleman Ave. offers regular composting
and beautiful backyard habitat classes for adults.  There are also a number
seasonal educational offerings for kids.  Check out their website for the
latest schedule of offerings.


New Fall Classes at West San José Community Center and Moreland West Community Center

Ninja Fitness
September 15th through November 10th
10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
$57 for ages 3-5
West San José Community Center - 3707 Williams Road, San José

This fun class will give your child a great workout. Each ninja will learn warm up exercises, karate moves and fitness exercises. Your child will use their energy in a positive way. For more information call: 408-249-6580.


Self Defense Class
September 20th through November 8th
10:45 a.m. - 11:45a.m.
$57 per person or ages 16 and older
Moreland West Community Center - 1850 Fallbrook Avenue, San José

Do you know how to avoid potential dangerous situations, better identify and reduce risk for yourself and your family? This class will increase your knowledge of how to handle harmful situations with basic self defense tactics. For more information call: 408-249-6580.


Family Karate
September 20th through November 8th
9:30 a.m. - 10:30a.m.
$57 per person for ages 5 and older.

San José Fire Department
Senior Safety Education Program

Invite the San José Fire Department to present important safety information to your
senior group!
Are you a senior who attends a community group? Please let your organizer know
that the San José Department conducts FREE safety presentations to the senior
community. We will present important life safety presentations to retiree groups,
senior centers, churches, and senior housing complexes etc.
We are currently offering presentations on:
• Fire Safety (including Kitchen fires)
• Fall Prevention
• Earthquake Preparedness
• Vial of L.I.F.E.
